History 

The development of PUNTACANA Resort & Club dates back to 1971 when Dominican businessman and hotelier Frank R. Rainieri and Theodore W. Kheel, the prominent New York attorney and labor mediator, created a partnership to construct a resort and real estate community that respects the natural habitat of Punta Cana while offering a world-class vacation experience.

Maintaining a dedication to sustainable tourism, PUNTA CANA Resort & Club has since grown to encompass over 26 square miles and now includes Tortuga Bay, Six Senses Spa, the PUNTA CANA Ecological Foundation, three residential communities (Corales, Hacienda and Arrecife), a full service marina, seven restaurants, a shopping village, a P.B. Dye-designed golf course, and Punta Cana International Airport, a modern facility that incorporates innovative and eco-friendly design.

In 1997, Julio Iglesias and Oscar de la Renta joined the Group as co-investors and have made PUNTACANA Resort & Club their home. Currently, Punta Cana is the most highly visited Caribbean destination and is easily accessible from all over the globe.

Accomodations

The 355-room PUNTA CANA Hotel is nestled amongst 105-acres of lush gardens bordering the magnificent Caribbean and also features nicely appointed two and three-bedroom ocean-view and garden-view Casitas. Nestled in private jungles, the Casitas offer bedrooms with king-size beds and bedrooms with two full-size beds, along with a common area including a living-dining room and a garden or terrace for guests’ privacy and comfort.

With uncompromised privacy and five-star service, Tortuga Bay is located within a gated community, and offers one, two, three and four bedroom villas along five miles of immaculate private beach with every convenience at arms length. With respect to the raw beauty of the resort’s setting, all villas are decorated in natural island colors, using an authentic combination of wicker and wood furnishings and luxurious linens to create a look that is at once luminous, serene and utterly elegant.

Each villa comes to life with a host of luxurious amenities, including Frette linens, plasma TV’s in both the bedrooms and living areas, DVD players, Jacuzzi bath tubs and separate showers, private outdoor dining areas, and a mini-bar stocked with a plethora of decadent necessities such as Fiji water, fine wine and chocolate chip cookies.

Delivering the level of service the resort’s most exclusive guests have come to expect, Villa Managers are always on hand to assist guests of Tortuga Bay with a wide variety of services. Guests may reach their appointed Villa Manager via a complimentary mobile phone throughout the duration of their stay to arrange for anything from nanny services to VIP transportation to private dinner parties.

Guests of Tortuga Bay are also each provided with a private golf cart to for exploring the property’s breathtaking grounds. Tortuga Bay’s private pool area is set amongst lush gardens backing onto the Caribbean and offers wireless Internet access for those who find it hard to unplug. A laptop rental service is also available.

Whether arriving by private plane or by one of the numerous carriers flying daily to Punta Cana, guests of Tortuga Bay are greeted as VIPs at Punta Cana International Airport (owned and operated by Grupo PUNTA CANA, the resort’s developers), where they are met upon arrival and swiftly escorted through both immigration and customs, and then whisked to the resort, just 10 minutes away.

Dining at PUNTA CANA Resort & Club is in itself a heavenly experience. With seven restaurants across the property, guests can feast on an array of delectable cuisines at restaurants such as La Yola, which with its grand palapa and glass-bottomed floor perched in the Caribbean, is the perfect setting for serving a seafood-based menu with an Asian fusion twist.
