Figures released by the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu reveal that visitor arrivals in the month of May 2010, compared to the same month last year, increased by six percent to 26,634. Arrivals from South Asian region, with the exception of Sri Lanka, gained overall positive growth of six percent with Bangladesh (30%) and Pakistan (26.3%) performing well. Visitor arrivals from India have increased by 4.3 percent.
China, another major source market, also recorded double digit growth of 35 percent. Visitor arrivals from Japan have registered a positive growth of 13.9 percent. Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) have marginally declined in the month of May 2010 by 3.7 percent. Visitor arrivals from South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand have registered a negative growth of 14 percent, 30.3 percent, 32.7 percent, and 50 percent respectively.
