Iguazú Falls, on the border between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, are one of Argentina’s “must see” tourist attractions. This dramatic display of 260 foot waterfalls covers an expanse of nearly two miles (2.7 km – four times the width of Niagara Falls) where the River Parana meets the River Iguazú.
There are up to 260 falls to admire, depending on rainfall, the largest of which is known as the Devil’s Throat. The falls, an established World Heritage Site, are surrounded by Iguazú National Park – a 258 mile² protected area of dense subtropical rainforest, home to diverse plant and wildlife. The park contains a sophisticated network of walkways, tracks and lookout points that can be explored by foot, train and boat. 150 miles south of Puerto Iguazú lie the carefully preserved ruins of the Loreto, San Ignaci Miní, Santa María la Mayor and Santa Ana Jesuit Missions.
These UNESCO protected buildings are the legacy of the Jesuit activity that dominated this area in the early 17th century. Another attraction of note is the Saltos del Moconá National Park, a picturesque canyon full of 80 foot waterfalls. The park is located 210 miles from Iguazu and 200 miles from Posadas. This is a great spot for rafting, 4x4 expeditions and jungle safaris.

By air: Iguazú International Airport (2 hour flight from Buenos Aires). By road: 14 hours from Buenos Aires. Car hire through Hertz or long distance bus to Puerto Iguazú, Misiones.
Subtropical and humid. Average temperature: 15°C (Winter), 25º C (Summer), 18ºC (annual average).
All year round. In Winter, when the water level is lower, you will see plants and animals that only come out during this season. The water is at its highest in Spring and Summer (rainy season), and the falls at their most majestic. Autumn, when the water is at its clearest, is the best season for bird watching and when the orchids are in bloom.
